Peek-a-Box Optical Illusion Kaleidoscope

Pee-a-Box - The new cylinder design has the insect appearing to hovering in the middle of what is clearly an open space - except it is an optical illusion, and the cylinder has a hidden kaleidoscope running along the entire length. 10” long by 3.25” dia. $610
'Peek-a-Box' combines a kaleidoscope with a shadow box. The optical illusion is achieved using a mirror set at 45 degrees, and some effort to conceal the placement of the mirror. As you can see from the photo above, even the kaleidoscope mirrors are hidden. It looks as if the viewer is just looking closely at a piece of paper, yet the viewer is actually seeing the following images...

The insects are made by me on the torch using Italian glassworking techniques. I make each glass insect from scratch, but I only need to make half of each insect. After the flameworking, I polish the insect down to an exact half. Once the insect is placed onto a mirror, it appears to be a whole insect, floating in mid-air as seen above.
